BYODb: WeWrite can connect to various databases. Is yours among them?

In today’s data-driven world, flexibility is everything. Most companies already have a robust data warehouse at the center of their analytics, so why add another database just for planning or writeback?

That’s the idea behind the BYODb (Bring Your Own Database) approach. With WeWrite, your existing data warehouse becomes the foundation for planning, forecasting, and data entry directly within Power BI. No duplicate storage, no additional infrastructure, just one connected environment where analysis and planning work hand in hand.

What is BYODb?

BYODb stands for Bring Your Own Database, a modern approach that allows organizations to integrate their existing data sources directly into external applications or analytics platforms.

Instead of copying or moving data into a separate managed database, you can connect your own, keeping control over your environment, configurations and compliance while still benefiting from the tools and insights provided by our WeWrite add-on.

Whether you’re running on Microsoft SQL, Azure SQL, MySQL, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric, WeWrite connects directly to your database, turning your existing setup into a powerful writeback and planning platform, without moving your data anywhere else. And because your data always stays in your own environment, you stay in full control — no vendor lock-in, no hidden dependencies, no compromises.

Why BYODb Matters for Your Business

Modern enterprises deal with massive amounts of data, often distributed across multiple environments, from cloud warehouses to on-prem servers. The challenge? Keeping everything connected, consistent and secure.

BYODb eliminates that friction by allowing you to:

  • Maintain Control: Your database stays under your governance. You manage performance, security, and scaling, exactly how you want.
  • Reduce Data Duplication: No need to replicate data across systems. You connect directly to the source for real-time insights.
  • Enhance Compliance: Keep sensitive data within your own environment while still enabling analytics and integrations.
  • Reduce Maintenance: Eliminate the need for syncing or maintaining additional databases. With fewer moving parts, your setup stays cleaner, faster, and easier to manage over time.

Ultimately, BYOD approach empowers your organization to take full control of its data, turning flexibility into a strategic advantage.

Supported Connectors

Connect our WeWrite Power BI add-on with the database you already trust:

How It Works

WeWrite connects securely to your existing database over HTTPS (TLS 1.2+), ensuring all communication between Power BI and your environment is fully encrypted. Once authenticated, the visual establishes a connection via ODBC to your database, whether it’s on-premises or in the cloud.

All read and write actions occur directly within your infrastructure. When users make changes in Power BI, WeWrite translates those inputs into database statements executed in real time against your data warehouse. No data is ever moved or stored externally, everything stays where it belongs, under your governance.
